Upgrading the driver
Ajax Security is an alarm-type driver. Unlike the other V2 drivers — which can be hot-swapped in place — Crestron Home does not allow a security/alarm driver to be updated live. The driver must be removed, the processor rebooted, and the new version installed fresh. Follow the process below exactly; skipping the reboot leaves the old driver cached and the new version will not load.
Because Ajax is a security type, a straight "update driver" is not possible. The processor caches the running alarm driver, so you must remove it and reboot before installing the new version. This is different from the other V2 drivers.
Ajax now enforces two-factor authentication (2FA) on every account. From driver version 2.7.0 you sign in once with your email, password and a 6-digit 2FA code, and the driver keeps a secure, self-renewing token. Systems on 2.5 or earlier must move to 2.7.0 to keep their Ajax connection working once 2FA is enforced.
Before you start
Crestron's own guide covers updating third-party drivers in more detail: Update Crestron Drivers.
The upgrade process
To upgrade the driver, follow these steps in order:
- Remove the driver from the room. In the Crestron Home Setup app, delete the existing Ajax Security driver from the room it's installed in.
- Reboot the processor. Use the Setup app's reboot option, or issue the console command
gracefulreboot. This clears the cached alarm driver — do not skip it. - Download or sideload the new driver and reinstall it into the room. Add the new version of the Ajax Security driver back into the same room.
- Verify the new version is loaded. Check the driver reports 2.7.0 (or later) in its details before continuing.
- Reconnect any Events and Actions, and re-apply your settings. Restore any programming that referenced the driver, and re-enter the driver settings — see Step one — driver settings. On 2.7.0 you'll also complete the one-time Step two — sign in to Ajax with your email, password and 2FA code.
A reboot is also required after adding or modifying groups/devices or changing settings, so the final sign-in and configuration step may prompt another reboot before the system is fully back online.
If the installation didn't complete
If no alarm areas appear after reinstalling, open the driver settings, go to LCD Driver App → Diagnostics, and run the Connection Troubleshooter. It checks the Hub, the SIA listener and the Ajax cloud sign-in and tells you which one failed.
